Sporting fresh corsages just presented by the organizing committee, Muriel Purdy and Mabel Doucet, honourary co-convenors, welcome attendees at the banquet dinner on Saturday night.

Mabel recounted how a letter from family genealogist Clayton Purdy inspired Mabel and Muriel to work together to organize the 1983 reunion at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College.  She observed that family reunions provide an excellent way for people to discover, or rediscover, their roots, and also provide the chance to meet and learn about several generations of their cousins.

With a warm smile, Muriel and Mabel also pointed out that family reunions can also provide incentives for new beginnings, by their subtle (and not-so-subtle) inspiration of young couples to continue the family line into the next generation!

At the conclusion of their remarks, Mabel and Muriel were given a standing ovation by all reunion attendees for their welcome and their role as co-convenors of the 1983 reunion that inspired this 2008 reunion.

By downloading the program, you’ll also enjoy a “sneak” preview of the beautiful commemorative coin that all reunion attendees will receive as a souvenir keepsake of the event, celebrating the 225th anniversary of the landing of Loyalist brothers Henry, Gilbert and Gabriel Purdy at Fort Cumberland, on July 15, 1783.  The two sides of the coin appear as illustrations at the top of the program.
