Happy 12th Anniversary, Bob & Patricia Purdy!
Bob and Patricia are celebrating their anniversary with a special two-week vacation in the maritime provinces.
This photo of the happy couple was taken while visiting cousin Elizabeth MacArthur at Clairmont, NS.
They’re looking forward to the highlight of their trip — attending the Purdy Loyalist Reunion in Truro NS, July 4-6, 2008. And they hope to see y’all there!
This page is all about who is coming…or not…to the 2008 Purdy Family Reunion. Please leave a comment to let everyone know your plans!
Unfortunately, we will not be able to attend the Purdy reunion. Work, school, and best friend’s wedding obligations have made it impossible. Sorry to miss the fun!
As a member of the group organizing the July event, I am looking forward to seeing everyone. Yes! I will be there from start to finish!
Good day,
I have this reunion marked on my calendar.
My maternal grandmother was Joyce Marie (Purdy) Kirkwood gggg – daughter of Gabriel and Esther (Angevine) Purdy.
I have just recently started researching my Purdy roots, and hope to learn and meet lots at this Purdy Reunion.

We had such a wonderful time at the ‘83 reunion, that I jumped at the chance to help organize the ‘08 one!
Sharon and I will most certainly be there again (see ‘83 photo #6) — but this time with our next generation – Jonathan, Chiara and Chantal.
We’re all looking forward to enjoying a very pleasant weekend with all our cousins!

Hi Everyone…This is a note to say we are looking forward to the event with renewed interest since visiting this wonderful site. Wendel has one question, “Is someone designated to check DNA on us when we register on Friday night? We understand only pure Purdy stock will be admitted…is there any truth to this rumour? ” Just kidding..!!
Proud to be D. Wendel (10) of Gabriel’s line. My sons are Lawson (11) and Len (11). For interest sake I’ll share that we are prouder still to be working to this day some of the lands that were orginally settled by Gabriel and the first Loyalist to this area. We live at the base of Sugarloaf Mountain, in the Cobequid Mountain Range. Looking forward to meeting lots of Purdy cousins…old and new, this summer.

Hey there Purdy’s…sounds like this upcoming reunion is going to be THE place to be July 4-6. I’m another one of Ivan and Muriel’s clan…sister to Elizabeth, Rebecca and Wendel and looking forward to seeing lots of Purdy family and friends…some I’m sure I haven’t seen since the last reunion in 1983. My 2 daughters attended with me in 1983 and this time Melissa, our oldest, plans to attend along with my husband Bruce. Unfortunately Peggy can’t make it. Looking forward to helping out a wee bit when and where I can and to seeing everybody there! See you all in Truro!!!

I’m Rebecca Purdy’s daughter, Muriel and Ivan Purdy’s grandaughter. Apparently I attended the 1983 reunion, but I would have been one year old, so I don’t remember it. I plan to attend this reunion with my husband and son, Jon and Connor…and I’m sure I’ll remember it this time.

Hi Everyone,
I am a great granddaughter of Caroline Jane Purdy (she was Gilbert’s great granddaughter) who married William MacNeill. I have their portraits hanging in my livingroom.
I am so sorry that I won’t be able to attend even though I will be home in NS but other family obligations make it impossible to attend. Have fun all.

Hi to all the Purdy clan out there, and thanks for the invite.
I have not done any research for a number of years, but will get back into this fall.
I had some problems proving which William my line came from, so did not get farther than William Purdy and Hannah Peregrine, married 1839 York , Ontario.
Would love to come to the reunion, but will have to pass this time. ( need another Oil well to come in first) ha ha .

I am very interested in Purdy research and would very much like to be at both the Remsheg gathering and the Purdy reunion. Having had 2 trips from BC to the Maritimes last summer I’m afraid I won’t be able to be there.
Our connection to the Purdy line goes back to about 1800:
1.Benjamin Betts, the UEL who was married to Eliza Montrose
2. Their son John married Winnifred Purdy, the daughter of Gilbert Purdy, UEL and lived in Wentworth.
3. Their son Benjamin b. May28, 1804 m. Isabella Thompson. I realize that the Betts book by Robbins says this Benjamin couldn’t be a son of Winnifred because he was born in 1800 and Winnifred wouldn’t have been old enough. However I have found his birth date to be May 28, 1804 and other things that have made me accept that Benjamin was the son of John and Winnifred Purdy Betts.
4. Their son James T. (Thompson) Betts m. Elizabeth Leard (Granny B.) who lived to be 102 years old.
5. Their daughter Ambrosine Betts m. Henry Charman
6. Their daughter Flora Maude Charman m. Dr. Elisha DeWolfe Roach of Tatamagouche
7. Their son Robert Dickson Roach m. Katherine Louise McMIllan of Jacquet River, NB
8. These are the parents of Margot Roach and me Lorna Roach Tissington, Nanaimo BC.
I hope someone out there is able to help me prove that Benjamin was the son of John Betts and Winnifred Purdy.
Lorna Tissington, Nanaimo, BC
I’m Judy Corkum (Purdy’s) daughter, Muriel and Ivan Purdy’s grandaughter. It’s been some time since our last reunion which I don’t remember much about. I am looking forward to coming home from Pakistan to enjoy good times and create new memories with the family.

I made the cutoff so guess that makes me an official attendee. I am granddaughter of Bernice Purdy and Walter Rushton, great niece of Ivan and Muriel Purdy among others, and great granddaughter of John Lawson Purdy and Mary Ellen Thompson. I will be watching for all those Purdy relatives I haven’t seen in years and meeting new ones.

Hi! I’m Jan Purdy, and Issy is my 8 yr old daughter. Ruth Foster is my sister and we’re the daughters of Earl (Smuts/Charlie) and Hazel Purdy of Springhill, NS. Our brother, Doug, lives in Vancouver.
I’ve recently moved back to NS from Vancouver. I have a geneology book (but need to find it in my moving boxes!)
Looking forward to meeting everyone, finding out more about our roots, and just having fun!
Cheers!
Jan
I am the daughter of Leo Purdy of the Gilbert Purdy line
but did not know of this reunion until last night. Can
someone tell me how to get on the list for the next one.
If you’d like to add your name to the list for the next reunion, please send your name and contact information (email, home address, telephone number) to purdyreunion@gmail.com. Be sure to indicate whether you’d be interested in helping to organize the next reunion.
The current organizing committee would be pleased to make this list available to the next organizing committee!
I just found out of about the Family Reunion and would like to attend. Am I too late to register?
You can still register for the reunion activities only, but unfortunately won’t be able to register for meals or accommodations at NSAC at this late date. However, there are many other dining and accommodation options available within a short distance from the campus.
Check the reunion program for the various activities that would be available to you (e.g., meet-and-greet, Saturday morning presentations, a children’s program, guided and self-guided tours, commemorative photos, entertainment, ecumenical service, etc.).
To register for the reunion activities only, please contact our registrar, Rebecca Purdy, as soon as possible by calling (902) 661-0614 or sending an email with your name, address, telephone number, email address and all attendee names to purdyreunion@gmail.com.
The registration fee for the reunion activities only is $25.00 per adult (aged 18 or over).
